Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a 29-year-old woman charged in the 2021 shooting death of her longtime boyfriend.

Chelsie Jones is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 29-year-old Montrell Holloway.

Jones and Holloway had three children together.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s on Friday filed a motion noting that intends to seek the death penalty. Holloway was killed in the presence of their young children.

Holloway was found dead shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2021, in the 1600 block of Alameda Avenue. Birmingham police West Precinct officers responded to the home on a report of someone shot.

They found Holloway unresponsive in a hallway. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.

Jones was initially ruled incompetent to stand trial but after undergoing mental health treatment, is now deemed competent to stand trial.

A trial date has not been set. Jones remains in the Jefferson County Jail.
